The Eta Aquarid meteor shower was
ongoing during this program, so
we talked about it a little bit.
We also talked about the Supreme
Court's 6-3 decision to allow Indiana
to force citizens to show photo
ID before they can vote. We discussed
whether or not I'd be able to vote
in such a circumstance. We talked
about the gay and lesbian sailors
in the PBS mini-series documentary
Carrier bravely speaking
out about their presence in the
U.S. Navy. We talked about a recent
finding that human beings nearly
went extinct about 70,000 years
ago, and I speculated on why that
might have happened. Pickles of
the North talked about the burgeoning
global food crisis that's causing
food riots in some places and causing
the price of food here to rise
dramatically. We talked about Chaos
Theory and it's inventor/discoverer
who recently passed away. We lamented
my digital camera dying and talked
about the most recent WBAI LSB
meeting. We read through almost
all of the mail.

Of course we talked about the visit
of Josef Ratzinger to New York
City. We exhibited our disdain
for all of the Abrahamic superstitions.
We brought back a feature that
we've done in the past where we
go through a book of factiods from
1898, and compare and contrast
the wisdom of the late 19th
Century to today. Pickles talked
about the Earth's weather changing
due to the Jet Streams migrating
farther from the Equator; she also
talked about the bumpy re-entry
of the Soyuz spacecraft and the
possible role that sexism played
in that. We announced the good
news about the WBAI elections being
over (I got reelected again, but
that wasn't the only good news).
We also got through a lot of listener
mail and we're almost caught up
in that category.

We talked about Joey Ratzinger coming
to town next week, and my experiences
on previous occasions when Popes
have visited New York City. I talked
about my experiences on the afternoon
when Martin Luther King Jr. was
assassinated, and the terrible
behavior of a drill sergeant on
that day. Pickles of the North
talked about some environmental
issues, including the latest huge
raft of sea ice breaking off from
Antarctica. We laughed at a lawsuit
brought by 2 guys who claim the
CERN Large Hadron Collider will
destroy the Earth and maybe the
universe. I discussed black holes
and the recent discovery of the
smallest one ever. Note:
This archive is split between two
entires and the first one starts
an hour into the file. I've made
an archive of the program available.
